Spousal Work Permit is an open work permit that allows your spouse or common-law partner to work on or off campus full-time while you are studying in Canada. This open work permit is not job specific in fact it allows your spouse or common-law partner to accept any job with any employer. And this open work permit is normally valid for the same period as long as you are studying in Canada. Your spouse or common-law partner can apply before or after their arrival in Canada. Although, sometimes you have to apply for spouse work permit at the same time of your study permit application as per the policy of Canadian Visa Offices. Moreover, you have to include the additional fee for the work permit of your spouse or common-law partner.
Eligibility criteria for applying a Spousal Work Permit:
If you are an international student studying full-time and have a valid study permit, then your spouse or common-law partner can easily apply for open work permit without having any job offer by a Canadian employer in advance.
How to apply
There are two simple ways to apply for a spouse or common-law partner work permit:
For online application, you must have-
- A valid credit card to pay fee
- A good quality scanner or digital camera to make electronic copies that you supposed to upload while filling the form.
For offline application, you must have-
- An application package which includes application guide to fill the form. You need to read the guide carefully before filling and submitting the form.
- After filling all the details attached the mentioned documents you must answer all the questions carefully, as the incomplete applications are not considered by the authority and will be returned to you.
- Finally, submit your application at the email address given in the application package.
